ABOUT US
The Fónica • TM collective brings together eight musicians of diverse origins around a common project: to showcase the most contemporary expressions of Tango. For over a decade, these artists have shared their paths, from the conservatories of Paris, Rotterdam, and London to the grandest stages of Europe, Asia, and Latin America. They collectively engage in the renewal of Tango.
With an international trajectory, the members of the collective perform in prestigious venues such as the Châtelet Theatre, the Auditorium of Radio France, the Auditorium of the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Bordeaux Opera, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, the Shanghai Oriental Art Center, the Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, and the San Martin Theatre in Buenos Aires. They perform as soloists and chamber musicians with ensembles like the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, the National Orchestra of Lille, the National Orchestra of Lyon, the National Orchestra of Brittany, and participate in festivals such as the Flâneries Musicales de Reims, the Nuits de Fourvière, and the Nuits Musicales d'Uzès.
Originating from the working-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires in the early 20th century, Argentine Tango has evolved over time and has experienced a resurgence for the past two decades. Fónica embraces this momentum by promoting values of diversity, creativity, modernity, and gender equality. The collective consists of four female and four male musicians from various backgrounds (France, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Poland). Fónica encourages artistic creation (commissioning new works, promoting creations) as well as the rediscovery of a musical heritage (interpretation, edition, and recording of unpublished works, historical research).
Fónica comprises four distinct tango ensembles, each with its own identity: Octetology, Quinteto Emedea, Cuarteto Lunares, Trio Tasis. The collective has also received international recognition, including winning the 1st prize at the Castelfidardo International Competition in 2020 (Italy) and the 3rd prize at the Piazzolla Music Competition in 2021. They have released four albums: "A Horas truncas" in 2016, "Modernísimo" in 2019, "Neotango" in 2023, and "Lunares vol. 2" in 2023-2024.
As Tango is intimately linked to dance, Fónica regularly collaborates with associated dancers to present dance performances, public initiations, and workshops for experienced dancers.
Lastly, Fónica's commitment to spreading the richness of Tango drives them to conduct cultural initiatives among diverse audiences and territories.
